Rewriting Your Story

Do you ever feel like if your life has been lined up for you, that you dont really have a say in how it will turn out? Have you taken the passenger seat in your own life, simply following the ride without asking where your heading? Have you ever questioned whether this is the right ride for you, or have you simply convinced yourself that it is? If we dont take action, our lives will just roll along like a movie, and before we know it the movie will be close to an end. If we dont claim our roll as the main character of our life, it will be given to someone else, and we become a meaningless character.

Many people spend most of their life unhappy about their jobs, finances, bodies, or their life in general. They complain about the same things over and over, but can’t seem to do anything to change it. Likely they have convinced themselves that their life is how it is suppose to be, that it is normal not to be fully satisfied, and that is just something we all need to coop with. We are all following a path, and when we stay on a specific path for a long time, the path becomes our story. The good thing is that we all hold the power to change our story. If you are unsatisfied with the current outline, you can rewrite it. The story doesn’t have to be the same as for 10 years ago, not even the same as yesterday. We basically sit with the pen in our hand, yet we so easily forget how to write. We all write our story, but if we dont want the same chapter to be repeated over and over, we need to get clear on how we can change it.

In order to change our story we need to evaluate our thought patterns, it is impossible to see positiv changes if our head is caught up in a negative spiral. If we always expect the worst to happen, and tell ourself that bad thing always happen to us, that bacomes our reality. If somebody where to ask you how your life is going, how would you respond? Would you lay out about how your sick all the time, and the finances are killing you? Or would you change it around by being excited that you finally have your energy back after some rounds of the cold, and that you now feel eager to head back to work full-time and add up does savings? They are both answers for the same scenario, yet the answers are so very different from each other. What separate them from each other is the energy put into it. The first answer has a pessimistic and victimizing vibe about it, everything is basically wrong and life seems hard. In the second answer on the other hand, a rather unfortunate situation are viewed from an optimistic stand. Rather than focusing on the sickness and lack of money, this answer shows gratitude for being well and able to earn money again. Where attention goes, energy flows. When we focus on how sick and tired we are about certain areas of our life, we are actually attracting more of just that. We can all change our situation and rewrite our story, we just need to be aware that we can.

Here are a few action steps you can take if you feel like its time to rewrite your story:

  1. Acknowledge that you are the narrator in your life. The pen is in your hand, and only you can decide how your story shall be written. Jump in the driver seat of your life and take back the control of the steering-wheel.

  2. Change your mindset. Stop victimizing yourself, this will only attracted more negativity into your life. Rather than always focusing on the things that are not right in your life, and digging “this always happen to me” hole, shift your focus to be on the things you are satisfied about. I can’t say it enough: where attention goes, energy flows.

  3. Let go. Let your current story go. Write down everything that are holding you back and that are no longer serving you. Put the story in front of you, take a deep breath and say out loud, “I let go”. Acknowledge that this is a part of your past, but that is it no longer serving you. Put fire to the paper, or tear it apart, and let go. decide to shift your focus forward and stop procrastinating!Visualize. Get clear on how your ideal story looks like and begin to visualize it everyday. The more detailed you can get, the easier it will be to visualize.

  4. Take action. If you dont like something, you have to change it. You wouldn’t spend money on a sweater you dont like, so why would you live a life you dont appreciate? You are already visualizing your dream life, so now its time to create some actions steps to move closer to your goal. What are some small steps you can begin to take already today? What are holding you back from taking them?
